ok so i got the latest Magellan model and its just doesn’t feel as solid as a GARMIN as far as giving directions but the POIs seems better than the Garmin.
WOW , I used a GARMIN allmy life but its time to switch…Im just sick tire of the same choppy frame rates from GArmin. This Magellan seems to offer so much more. You have given the best review without even saying word…thanx!
Never thought Magellan changed the windshield mounts to their units. Will get my 4700 next week. Magellan GPS units are the best ones so far. I have 3 of them and they work just like a charm.
@paulrudenko – the manual gives complete instructions on using BT and pairing with your phone. Very simple. You can use voice control for almost anything. Best is instead of typing in an address – you SAY the address and it plots your route.
@thesomog69 – leave it in the car in your cigarette lighter. Most cars have a direect connection from the lighter to the battery, so it will be getting power all the time. The battery draw is next to nil, so unless you only drive every few weeks it will not be a problem. The USB cable is more for unploading data to your unit – not charging – though it CAN do that.
So despite the manual – and common sense – telling owners NOT to put the unit in your line of sight – where do you put the unit? Directly in the line of sight. How clever.
ok I have a really dumb question. I just bought my 1st GPS, the Magell. Maestro 4700 and didnt know you couldnt charge it with the USB thru the computer so was wondering what my other options are. Can I just charge it and leave it plugged into my cars cigarette lighter overnight or something? The car doesnt have to be turned on obviously right? (I know Im dumb) Also will it drain the hell out of my cars battery if I do that often? Would appreciate any help greatly. Thanks!

What about zooming? Will it hold the zoom level you set? Or will it automatically zoom back in? You didn’t try zooming while driving
